Welcome
"Welcome to The Thanksgiving Play by MacArthur Fellow Larissa FastHorse, Steppenwolf's first production written by a Native playwright. Following its Broadway run last spring, Larissa's “comedy-within-a-satire” has become one of the most produced shows in the country. When we first read this play, we couldn't believe how much we laughed. The play balances skewering comedy with uncomfortable provocations, asking for a high degree of self-recognition from all of us. Director Jess McLeod has mapped an honest journey for each of the characters in this play, and Engagement Curator & Cultural Consultant Dillon Chitto has curated a path to guide us as we engage our local Indigenous community."

Lobby Installation
You are on Native land. Too often, the Indigenous perspective is forgotten or pushed to the back. The Thanksgiving Play tackles this idea head on. This display is meant to be a glimpse into the lives of Indigenous people we hear about in land acknowledgments, a reminder of the native people that fill the city of Chicago today, and an invitation to truly examine popular images of native people.
